How do you hire in property litigation?

Property litigation sits between property and litigation, and the people who do it well are scarce. Some come from a property background and have moved into disputes. Others are litigators who have settled into property. We ask which your team needs.

We ask about the mix of work, the size of the matters, how much a mid-level lawyer runs alone and who supervises. Candidates ask the same, so we get the answers first.

If the market cannot give you the person at the money offered, we say so before you pay for anything.

What we ask first

  • What is the mix of landlord and tenant, property disputes and other contested work?
  • How large are the matters, and who runs them?
  • How much does a mid-level lawyer run without a partner reading every page?
  • Is there a route to partner?
  • Where does the pay sit against the market, and does it flex?

Questions on real estate and property litigation recruitment.

Straight answers.

What does a property litigation solicitor do?

They advise on and run disputes about property: leases, rent and service charges, boundaries and title, and property that has gone wrong. Many come from a property background.

Can a property solicitor move into property litigation?

Sometimes. It depends on the firm and the role. Some firms train the right person and some want direct experience. We tell you which before you apply.

Does it cost the lawyer anything?

No. Firms pay us. By law, a recruitment agency cannot charge a candidate for finding them work, and we would not want to.
