Location: Manchester — hybrid, three office days and two remote

Corporate Solicitor, Manchester, £65,000–£80,000 plus discretionary bonus. Own transactions, develop leadership skills and progress within a firm that takes work-life balance seriously.

You can enjoy corporate work and still want more control over your evenings, greater involvement in deals and a clearer idea of where your career is going.

This established commercial firm offers responsibility within a team that needs your experience. You’ll run smaller transactions, help drive larger deals and guide junior lawyers, working directly with partners.

Its approach to working life has substance behind it. Leadership has actively encouraged people to leave on time, family leave has recently been strengthened, and internal promotions demonstrate that careers develop here.

What’s different about this role

  • Want more ownership of the deal? You’ll see matters through from instruction to completion, running smaller transactions and helping drive larger ones. That means understanding the client’s objectives and seeing the outcome of your advice.
  • Ready for your experience to carry more weight? There’s an identified gap between partners and junior lawyers. Your judgement, transaction management and supervision skills will meet a clear need.
  • Looking for a clearer next step? A formal promotions process and examples of lawyers progressing to senior associate and partnership give you something concrete to discuss: what advancement requires and how you can work towards it.
  • Want demanding work to fit within a sustainable career? The firm sets chargeable expectations with balance in mind at just 5.5 hours daily. Its longstanding approach includes leadership encouraging people to finish on time, alongside hybrid working and a monthly early finish.
  • Want support that helps you focus? Departmental and central administrative support sit alongside partner involvement, helping you concentrate on transactions, clients and developing your expertise.

What’s in it for you

  • £65,000–£80,000, depending on experience and appointment level.
  • Discretionary annual bonus with a strong payment history, subject to individual, team and firm performance.
  • Two remote days each week, reducing commuting while keeping regular contact with colleagues.
  • 25 days’ holiday plus your birthday off, with the option to buy up to five additional days.
  • A monthly early finish on a Friday
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity policies. Maternity provision was substantially increased this year; eligibility and repayment terms apply.
  • 4% pension contribution, employee assistance programme and employee discounts.
  • A formal promotions process, with opportunities to develop through transaction ownership, supervision and client relationships.

The Work

  • Run smaller corporate transactions and help drive larger deals.
  • Advise on M&A, investments, restructuring and shareholder arrangements.
  • Handle relevant non-transactional company advice.
  • Coach junior lawyers and build relationships across the firm and with clients.

What We’re Looking For

  • A qualified Corporate Solicitor with approximately 5–10 years’ PQE.
  • Experience managing transactions and contributing to larger deals.
  • Commercial judgement and the ability to deliver practical advice.
  • An interest in developing colleagues and client relationships.

The Culture

The firm treats clients as shared relationships, encouraging colleagues to collaborate across departments. Senior leadership is accessible, and staff can raise ideas directly as well as through regular surveys.

That willingness to develop extends to working practices: the firm provides AI training and reviews technology to help people work more efficiently. Social, community and wellbeing activities also create opportunities to build relationships beyond your immediate team.
