Salary: £65,000–£80,000, depending on experience and appointment level, plus discretionary bonus
Location: Manchester — hybrid, three office days and two remote
Employment Solicitor, Manchester, £65,000–£80,000 plus discretionary bonus. Hybrid working, varied advisory and contentious work, client ownership and evidenced progression.
If you’re considering a move, you’ll want to know what will actually improve: the work, your prospects and how the job fits around your life.
This role brings together varied employment work, direct client relationships and a firm where work-life balance has long been part of how the business operates. Leadership has actively encouraged people to finish on time, and occasional wellbeing early finishes have become a regular monthly benefit.
You’ll join an established team that needs an experienced solicitor between partner and junior level. There’s a clear opportunity to take ownership, develop others and build your own career.
What’s different about this role
- Keep your practice varied. Work across contentious and advisory matters for employers and individuals, combining tribunal work with the commercial decisions that help clients manage risk.
- Build relationships beyond individual instructions. An established retainer practice creates opportunities to become a regular adviser to HR leaders and senior decision-makers.
- Develop your career with evidence behind the conversation. Recent team promotions and a formal promotions process give you concrete examples to explore when discussing your next step.
- Get practical help building your profile. Marketing support for articles, events and professional recognition helps you turn business development ambitions into activity.
- Take responsibility with support around you. Experienced partners, mentoring and in-team administrative support sit alongside the opportunity to manage matters and supervise juniors.
What’s in it for you
- £65,000–£80,000, depending on experience and appointment level.
- Discretionary annual bonus, subject to individual, team and firm performance, with a strong history of payment.
- Two remote days each week, reducing commuting while maintaining time with your team.
- 25 days’ holiday plus your birthday off, with the option to buy additional leave.
- A monthly early finish, giving you regular time back.
- Enhanced family leave, subject to eligibility and policy terms.
- Pension, employee health plan, life assurance and group income protection.
- Employee assistance programme with counselling access.
- Structured development and a formal promotions process.
The Work
- Manage contentious and non-contentious employment matters for employers and individuals.
- Advise on tribunal claims, settlement agreements and senior employee exits.
- Handle restructures, redundancies, TUPE and restrictive covenant issues.
- Support junior colleagues and contribute to training and client development.
What We’re Looking For
- A qualified Employment Solicitor with approximately 5–7 years’ PQE.
- Experience managing your own caseload and providing practical commercial advice.
- Confidence supervising and delegating to less experienced colleagues.
- An interest in developing client relationships; advocacy experience is welcome but not essential.
The Culture
Client relationships are shared across the firm, encouraging colleagues to work together across departments. Senior leadership is accessible, with direct conversations and regular staff surveys providing opportunities to contribute ideas. Social, wellbeing and community activities offer ways to get to know people beyond your immediate team.
