Practice area Conveyancing recruitment.
Wilson Mannion recruits conveyancers for UK law firms: assistants, fee earners, senior solicitors and heads of department, in boutique, high street and regional practices. We tell firms whether the market has the person, and tell lawyers whether a move is worth making.

How do you hire a conveyancer who stays?
A conveyancing team runs on caseload, supervision and systems. A fee earner who thrives on a high volume of residential files is a different hire from one who needs fewer, larger matters. A head of department who has built a team is different again. We ask about all of it before we put anyone forward.
Finding applicants for an advertised conveyancing role is rarely the hard part. Finding the one who is still there after the first busy quarter is. We look at how long a candidate stayed in each role, why they left and what their caseload looked like on the day they did.
Many roles are open to solicitors, licensed conveyancers and CILEX lawyers. We say plainly where a firm has a preference, and we do not pretend a candidate fits when they do not.
What we ask first
- Who supervises the role, and how many fee earners do they supervise?
- What caseload is normal, and which case management system is used?
- Is the work residential only, or mixed with commercial or new build?
- Do lender panels, CQS or Lexcel accreditation shape the role?
- What did the last person in the role do next, and why?
What should you look for in a conveyancing role?
The questions that matter in a conveyancing move are rarely on the advert. How many files will you carry on day one? Who signs off your work? What happens to your caseload when a colleague leaves? We ask the firm before we put you forward, and tell you what we hear.
Pay moves with caseload, location and whether the role is hybrid or remote, so the salary is on every advert and we give you the band for any role before you apply. Some firms will look at a conveyancer from a different type of practice, and some will not. We tell you which.
If you are an assistant or legal secretary ready to move up, or a fee earner thinking about a head of department role, the first call is the place to say so.
What we ask first
- How many files will I carry, and how is that counted?
- Who supervises me, and how often?
- Is the pay band written down, and is any of it discretionary?
- Can I work from home, and on how many days?
- What does progression look like in writing?

Questions on conveyancing recruitment.
Straight answers.
What does a conveyancing recruiter do?
A conveyancing recruiter finds fee earners and heads of department for law firms, and finds conveyancing roles for lawyers. At Wilson Mannion that means a conversation with both sides first, a written note on why a candidate suits the role, and no CV sent without the candidate's say so.
Do you recruit licensed conveyancers and CILEX lawyers?
Yes. Many firms will see solicitors, licensed conveyancers and CILEX lawyers for the same role, and some prefer one route. We ask the firm at the start and tell you whether the role is open to your qualification.
Does it cost the lawyer anything?
No. Firms pay us. By law, a recruitment agency cannot charge a candidate for finding them work, and we would not want to.
Do you have remote conveyancing roles?
Some of our conveyancing roles are remote or hybrid, and every advert shows the working pattern and the salary.
How long does it take to fill a conveyancing role?
It depends on the role and the money. Some fill in weeks. A senior or head of department role can take months. After the first meeting you get a realistic timeline in writing.
